Science vs Pseudoscience Paper  

 

Choose one of the statements/sources below. Use critical thinking, what you have learned in the three modules, and other information sources to determine whether or not your chosen statement/article is based (mostly) on science or pseudoscience. 

Then try to locate at least three published peer-reviewed scholarly articles that support the claim, make a reference to something you read in the textbook/course module, and summarize your conclusion in a one-page paper. Your conclusion must be supported by at least three peer-reviewed scholarly articles in addition to the course materials.  Include references to information sources used in APA format 

 

To locate a peer-reviewed scholarly article I suggest using one of the following: 

  1. UMGC library's search engine OneSearch https://sites.umgc.edu/library/index.cfm 

  1. GoogleScholar http://scholar.google.com/

Statement/Resource Choices:  

1. Green coffee supplements burn fat   

2. The blood type diet improves your health 

3. The Atkins Diet will help you lose weight quickly  

4. Talking to your plants make them grow faster 

5. Following this 1-2-3 Detox plan will make you radiant 

6. Forskolin rapidly melts away belly fat 

7. Probiotics helps you lose weight, especially belly fat 

8. Drinking alkaline water helps fight cancer 

9.  Alkaline Water Prevents The Development Of Diabetes 

10. Eating garlic will prevent the common cold  

11. Regular consumption of garlic prevents cancer 

12. Consumption of ginger provides benefits for anxiety, depression, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or post-traumatic stress (you can choose one of these to research)

13. Consuming ginger will reduce cholesterol levels 

Once completed, you can email your final paper to your instructor for grading, and they will update your grade within the gradebook in your classroom.
